The camp is a day partly residential summer science camp that engages students in grades 6, 7 and 8 with hands-on experimentation and science.
Religion In Kindergarten the students discover God's love and recognize they are lovable and unique individuals. They develop a habit of prayer and foster a respect for life by developing attitudes of justice and peace for all.
The First Grade program is designed to provide a simple overview of the mysteries of our faith. Children develop an awareness of God, awareness of values, awareness of others, and awareness of spiritual development. Children learn the importance of daily prayer through a variety of prayer forms.
In Grade Two the primary focus is on the Sacraments and the role they play in the life of the Church and its members. Our literature-based program has a heavy emphasis on comprehension, creative writing and cross-curricular activities. Language and vocabulary play a key role, and reference materials become an important study tool.
Reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills are interconnected in weekly lessons. Students spend time learning grammar, including sentence structure and parts of speech. The children participate in annual writing assessments from the Diocese of Pittsburgh and are evaluated using specific rubrics in the areas of focus, content, organization, style and conventions.
Mathematics In our primary Mathematics program, students develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills. Students engage in number systems and number relationships, computation, and estimation. They acquire mathematical reasoning abilities through age-appropriate problems and investigations in the areas of geometry, statistics, data analysis, probability, algebraic thinking, and measurement.
Children are encouraged to explore, develop, test, discuss and apply ideas to see mathematics as something that is fluent, vibrant and very relevant both as a discipline and as a tool to benefit humanity. Science All areas of our intermediate science curriculum are introduced and explored using a step-by-step format.
Students are provided with a variety of learning experiences that promote their understanding of themselves and their environment. Emphasis on the major areas of life, earth and physical science help the student master these concepts.
Critical thinking and problem solving that apply to daily life are also stressed. Social Studies Primary students participate in a variety of cross-curricular activities that focus on values, society, history, geography, economics, political science, and anthropology.
